Day 36 of 365: 1 year SEO mission to double traffic (video transcript)
Okay, day 36, let’s go. Last time I told you I need to double our traffic this year with SEO. Today I’m going to tell you why, because I was thinking last time, why do I even do this? What’s the benefit? So I’ve dived into all the numbers to make the case for why this is an amazing investment and I’m going to show you all the details now.
I’ve actually made the calculation already. I found out that we pay around $6 per click for a good trial and I also found out that we got 6,000 clicks per month from SEO and organics, so also AI. So just to be very conservative, I said what if the traffic is only worth half, so $3 per click on average, but still three times 6,000 clicks, that’s $18,000 that our traffic is currently worth.
And you know, I said I wanted to double the traffic this year to 12K visits per month. That basically means I need to add, together with the team, $18,000 in traffic value per month. And this sounds like some voodoo number.
This is reality. This is real money that we will generate, that we will benefit from. This is money we didn’t have to spend on advertising to do this.
So I realized that the goal I have, if you see our analytics tool here, this is all the Google and AI traffic, etc. So all the organic traffic. And as you can see, my goal to double it, you know, as, you know, if you look back, this is the last 12 months, we went from 9.4 to the low point of 5.7 in December.
And now I say I’m going to double it. If some of you are nerds and you’re watching this, you might say, oh yeah, but in April, Google launched AI overviews, this new AI, and it stole your traffic. That’s technically true.
That happened to us as well. But that doesn’t explain what happened later in the year. So we were actually in a structural decline in traffic way before that happened.
And I can show you a longer range. So basically, our peak was in 2024. We built some really good SEO.
And then, you know, life caught up with us and we stopped doing SEO. You know, the real drop, you see the real climb down here has nothing to do with AI. This is just our organic ranking, slowly tanking.
And I can see that I’ve done the analysis. So what I’m actually going to do here is I’m going to get back to our top, which was almost 12K in October 2024. Yeah, so this is really why I’m doing it.
I want to make $18,000 in traffic value per month. Because if I can add that $18,000 in value, we can more or less double the amount of customers we’re generating. So for organic, it’s around 8%.
So if we have 400, let’s just quickly do that. So 400 multiplied by 8%. So that’s around 30 customers every month.
But we can see which landing pages here are actually the ones converting. And that’s very, very helpful. Sorry, we need to go to entry pages.
So here we can see which entry pages leads to a trial signup. In the next episode, I’m going to show you exactly what I’m starting doing, because I’ve already started working on the SEO. But I thought it was important to show you the why first.
Why would I even work on our SEO? Well, there’s $18,000 waving in front of us. That’s why. All right.
