Be careful when automating your SEO fixes with AI tools

There are many great tools now that offer full SEO automation of things like fixing your websites onsite health issues like meta descriptions, title and image alt tags. Just to name a few things.

I have personally tested these: Speedybrand, Otto SEO (Search Atlas), Rankai

But be careful

Common for all of them is they automate by asking you to install a so called “script” that basically allows them to change your websites content from their side.

That’s not all bad, especially for CMS like Wix where they don’t offer a lot of ways for the user to change the content automatically, because native plugins are very restricted in what they can do. There are many CMS (website tools) like this. So here a script solution is the only solution.

It comes at a price

You basically don’t own the fixes that were applied from these vendors end. The minute you remove the script from your website, all fixes are gone.

This practically means you don’t own the data and the fixes. And I find that wrong. Also for most tools, you have to keep paying them every month, if you don’t want to lose the fixes.

So by unsubscribing you could even potentially break your site. This is digital ransom. Also called “vendor lock-in”. I am not a fan.

What are the alternatives?

Some SEO tools offer an API with these fixes, you could build your own website plugins based on those. But it would take a lot of effort. So sometimes if you want quick automatic fixes, there is no realistic alternative.

But if you use WordPress (and Shopify soon I hope) I got a true alternative for you:

A plugin where all fixes are installed automatically on your website and you fully own the fixes.
