We decided in Spring of 2022 that we needed to help the climate efforts globally. Even if we are small company, our actions do matter. Because we might inspire other companies to do the same.
So we made a simple commitment: For every actively paying customer we have, we plant 1 tree per month.
Where are we planting these trees?
Currently, We are planting trees in Kenya with our partner, Eden Reforestation, who has planted 900 Million trees so far!
Where does Morningwood come into the picture? Keep reading and you will see.
Isn’t this just greenwashing?
Using our product will mean less CO2 in the world. At least if you agree with the logic, that by planting forests and reducing CO2 at a higher level than the total CO2 our company emits, we are in a net positive situation. This is called CO2 offsetting and is a quite debated topic. For example, Greenpeace calls it a “scam” (source). They do have some interesting arguments, but I honestly think they went waaaaay too far here. Of course, we need to tackle the underlying issues of climate change. But deforestation and loss of biosphere is also a VERY serious issue. Fighting that just so happens to also reduce CO2 effectively.
Our partner, Eden Reforestion has planted 900 Million trees. This is REAL CHANGE that will make headlines and make people realize we can and should do more for the climate.
On top of that they have saved thousands of children’s lives (source) through their social working model where they employ African mothers whose children would die without support. As a customer in Morningscore you help save those lives. This is not a “scam”.
What’s the goal?
Our goal is to plant 1 million trees. We hung up this “goal-setting” poster at one of our office walls to remind us of that:
And our long term goal is to grow the biggest forest on our island, Funen.
It is located here on the map:
We will call that forest Morningwood. It will be grown together with our sister company, Morningtrain
And of course we also have a goal-setting poster for that in our office:
So there you go! This post will probably get updated with more facts and updates from behind the scenes as we go. For now it’s a little peak into our actions and plans.
We know, that we are not saving the climate directly with this, but we are making the world a little better with our customers help, and we are hopefully inspiring others to pursue similar commitments. I know this is true, since I myself got inspired by Patagonia (among others) to kickstart this commitment in 2021.
