Free link inspiration: How to find good backlinks from your competitors

Who better to find relevant backlinks for you than your competitors? An obvious way to find good links is to look at your competitors. Most SEO tools allow you to see which backlinks your competitors have. You can use this information to your advantage in your own link building strategy!

By knowing your competitors’ backlinks, you can investigate how to get the same links. For example, if your competitor has a backlink from YouTube.com — and you don’t – what would it take for you to get it?

You will now be able to get just as good links as they do – or at least be able to research how to obtain them. This gives you a competitive advantage over your competitors in terms of your off-page SEO, as you can actively work to achieve the same results they do.

How do you see your competitors’ backlinks in Morningscore?

At Morningscore, we have many tools that can help you improve your SEO. One of these tools shows you ALL of your competitors’ backlinks. This allows you to actively work on getting the same links and, in turn, improve your off-page SEO results.

  1. Go to morningscore.io and click on “Links” in the menu bar.

Example

Let’s use one of our competitors as an example. They have a backlink from Wikipedia that we don’t have. We can see that we don’t have it because it’s possible to click “Add mission”—if we already have a backlink from that site, it will say “Territory conquered.”

By clicking “Add mission,” we save the link as a mission in case we want to work on getting the same link. There will usually be many backlinks—some will be useful, some will be worthless. Nevertheless, you have the opportunity to see all the backlinks of your competitors.

We are provided with the following information:

  • The URL of the competitor’s backlink. (The link that comes from Wikipedia).
  • The URL that is linked from Wikipedia to our competitor. (The landing page that Wikipedia has linked to from the competitor).
  • The anchor text on the competitor’s page.
  • Details: You can read more about backlinks and attributes here.
  • Date of the link.
  • The value of the landing page. (Based on various factors, each page is given a value from 0 to 100, which generally corresponds to Google’s PageRank score.)

With this information, you can now explore how to get a link from the same page and get an idea of what it takes to obtain the same backlink. In some cases, you just need to contact the website; in other cases, you need to pay for a link, and some links you can only get by making an effort. On YouTube, for example, you have to make a video. Then, it’s up to you to decide what adds value to your business and your customers.

Find competitors through keyword analysis

You probably already have a good idea of who your competitors are in the real world. When it comes to SEO, things might be different. Because who is ranking for the keyword that you want to rank for?

Keyword analysis gives you a better understanding of your competitors on Google, a better understanding of your customers, and improves your visibility on Google. It also helps you understand what it takes to rank high and what SEO strategy you should use to get the best results.

With Morningscore, you can easily perform a keyword analysis and see who is ranking high for the same keywords as you.
