Free link inspiration: How to get backlinks from podcasts

An effective way to get a relevant backlink from credible websites in relevant contexts is through podcasts. If you have participated in a podcast as a guest, expert, or panelist, both you and your company are likely to be mentioned in the podcast. Your product or company may also be reviewed, recommended, or featured in a podcast. The obvious thing to do here is to take advantage of the brand mentions and look for the opportunity to get a backlink.

It’s not enough just to be mentioned in a podcast—although it’s good to be presented to the podcast’s listeners. Google can’t do much with that. Most platforms, such as Podimo, Spotify, or PodBean, have a text description of the podcast episodes so that listeners can read what the episode is about. This is where you should look for the opportunity to get a potential backlink.

A backlink from platforms like Spotify and PodBean is valuable because it is unique, credible, and relevant content. When sharing content on music and podcast services, you don’t have the same opportunity to spam content as you do on other platforms. It takes time and resources, so it’s not something you just do. You have to set higher standards for your content, which makes backlinks from these platforms valuable.

Which podcasts have mentioned me?

If you already know which podcasts you have appeared on or been mentioned in, you can search for them. However, if you want to find out which podcasts have mentioned you, or if you’ve forgotten the name of the podcast you were featured on, here’s what you can do:

  1. Go to Google and search for “podcast + your business”.

  2. Open the results of interest.

We found the podcast ‘Grow Your B2B SaaS’ featuring Morningscore.
  3. Check if you got a link from the page.
In the image from the example, we can see that there is no link to Morningscore. This is because it is an introduction page for the whole podcast.
Note: You might have to dig a little deeper to find a link. It may be hidden under the episode you are looking for.
  4. Check to see if you’ve got a link. Look a little deeper to see if there’s a link hidden somewhere.

In the example, there is a link to Morningscore under the podcast episode. This is good because we got our backlink.
  5. Find and contact the host. If your site isn’t linked, you can contact the host and ask them to update it so you can get a backlink. Fortunately, this is not very difficult, as the host will often have their name or contact details publicly available.

Be aware that there are many different podcast platforms, and while they may look different from the example above, the approach remains the same.

Podcast as a platform

Podcast backlinks are strong, trustworthy, and good for your SEO. But podcast platforms offer so much more.

When you participate in a podcast, you don’t just get a good backlink — you also get brand mentions and visibility to a relevant audience who have tuned in to the podcast. You will be mentioned in relevant contexts because the podcast fits your niche.

If you have the resources and desire to start a podcast yourself, it’s a great platform. You can drive traffic to your brand and build relationships with your customers. You can use it for courses, knowledge sharing, customer cases, and expert debates. The possibilities are endless — the only limit is your creativity.
